The
Trade
Sweats trickled down to his
cheeks as he gasped for air; fingers stroke the hair to the back as he was
trying to stabilize his breath. After a moment, Kyouya leaned against the firm
leather couch; both his fair hands covered his face, trying to grasp the
situation just now. Only dim light in the apartment accompanied the figure who
lost in sea of thought. He did not have any intention to waste any time despite
just only returned less than two hours ago. Once he had finish thinking,
contemplating and making decision, he was determined to end the cycle. His head
was clear from any doubt, his eyes were on fire and his heart was as hard as
steel, showing the unyielding resolve. This should be his last attempt. No
matter how many times he repeated, the end had always been the same. There was
never an ending where both of them could survive, not even once. It was
exhausting, draining his life energy and utterly heartbreaking at the same time.
He swore that he would change the ending; however that was all bark and no bite.
This time, he would definitely rewrite the ending, a different finale than the same conclusions
that had been written at the end of his story.
“Are you going to take
another try?”
Cold, demanding voice with intimidating
aura could be heard from the woman with yellow hair who appeared out of the
blue in front of Kyouya. His lips flashed a faint smile.
“Yes, because this is the
last time, Tempo.”
She laughed pretentiously.
“How? You failed the previous
nine attempts, how will you succeed this one? How are you sure that this would
be the last time?”
Her sky blue eyes were full
of curiosity. Her gaze met his warm
stare.
“I have finally understood
what I should do in order to save him.”
The woman kept silent, just
observing the man in front of her. She had been watching. Since the beginning,
she had been on the sideline, observing his struggle, his patience, his resolve,
his failure and his end.
“I was the only one who
survived in every timeline and he was the one who lost his life over and over
again. Then, what will happen if it is the other way around? Obviously, the
contract would successfully finalize.”
“Do not tell me that…”
Her eyes widen upon realizing
what he was about to do. For the first time, Kyouya saw the distant eyes
wavered.
“It is exactly as per you
thought. Trade a life for another. I am going to exchange his fate with mine.”
“Are you really going to exchange your life
for his?”
She returned to her composed
self, evaluating the decision made by the man she had a contract with.
“Yes, I am not going to
regret my decision.”
“Is it really fine for you?
It will be the end for you.”
“It is fine. I had enough
with all this stuff, repeating things over and over again. Furthermore, there
is nothing better than reaching up my goal to save my twin brother.”
“I understand. I wish you
luck, Matsumoto Kyouya.”
She bowed to him, as she did before
he started his journey whenever he travelled to the past for the previous nine
times. It was an encouragement from her as his contractor. His feet took steps
forward till he was just inches away from her. His hands reached out her
slender figure and pulled her into his embrace. The witch stunned, not
expecting the bold move by the man. Silent enveloped the room as Kyouya was holding
the still woman. He was thankful to meet her in his darkest time, giving him
light to continue living in this world and enabled him to save his brother.
“Thank you, Tempo.”
He undid his steps. A smile
decorated his face before he finally walked towards the time portal. After a
few minutes, she closed the portal. Tears streamed down to her cheeks.
It was recorded in the
Legendary Witch Record book that the aloof Witch of Time, Tempo dissipated in
nothingness as she traded her life by using forbidden magic to save one person
she held dear ten years ago.
Disclaimer:
If there is any similarity with other stories or drama or movie out there, it
might be just a coincidence. It can also be that I have been inspired to write
based on the story and change them according to my creativity.
