Short Story 1: There All Along

Synopsis:

At eleven years old, Fujita Yuma’s life changed forever when his younger twin brother, Haruma, was kidnapped. Though Haruma was rescued a month later, he returned broken—physically and emotionally—his survival hanging by a fragile thread. The family spent years fighting to keep him alive, then whole years more ensuring he stayed safe.

In the shadow of that fear, Yuma learned to wait.

As Haruma underwent surgeries, rehabilitation, and psychiatric treatment, the family’s world quietly reorganised itself around protection and vigilance. Bodyguards, careful routines, constant monitoring—every small injury became a source of terror. Yuma, equally afraid of losing his brother, accepted his place in the background without protest.

Yet acceptance did not erase loneliness.
