The thunder and rain wake
him up from his deep slumber. Haruto is looking all around the room as if he is
searching for something. But to be exact, he is searching for someone. He is
still looking all around his room until the thunder strikes again. The thunder
awakens him from his crazy mind and pulls him back into reality.
“She’s not here anymore,
Haruto. Get a grip of yourself.” Haruto covers his face with his hand.
He’s trying to sleep again,
but he can’t. Koyomi keeps filling his thought.
Haruto goes downstairs and sits
on the chair. Maybe because of thunder, he can’t sleep as it reminds him of
her. A lot.
“Haruto!” Koyomi entered his
room in a rush while he was sleeping on a raining night one day.
“Koyomi?” Haruto rubbed his eyes.
She looked scared.
“What’s wrong? Do you need mana?”
Koyomi shook her head.
“Then, what’s wrong?”
Out of the blue, the thunder
struck twice. Koyomi spontaneously grabbed Haruto’s arm and hold onto him.
Haruto smiled slightly as he
understood the reason why she came into his room. Upon realizing that she was
holding Haruto’s hand, she immediately let it off.
“I’m sorry. It’s just…” As
usual, Koyomi apologized as she thought she burdened him more with her fear of
the thunder.
“It’s okay.” Haruto assured
her that he was fine with it.
The thunder struck again.
Koyomi once again held his arm, but more firmly. Koyomi let off his hand once
again once the thunder stopped.
“Sorry, Haruto. You can go
to sleep again.”
She was about to leave until
Haruto stopped her.
“Wait, Koyomi!”
He got off from the bed and
went to get a chair; put it nearby his bed. He made a sign for Koyomi to sit on
the chair and she just did as she’s been told.
Haruto lied down on his bed.
“Give me your hand.”
Koyomi was confused but she
still followed what Haruto said.
“You don’t need to be scared
anymore. I’m here.” Haruto tightly gripped her hand.
Her fear disappeared a bit.
She also tightly gripped his hand.
“I’m going to sleep now.”
Haruto told her.
Koyomi just nodded. Haruto
still didn’t let off his hand. Before continued to nap, he reminded her.
“Next time; if you are
afraid again, come here. I’ll lend you my hand.” Haruto said with a smile.
Koyomi nodded once again and
smiled to him.
Ever since then, Koyomi
stayed besides Haruto whenever the thunder struck. Haruto freely lent his hand
to Koyomi so that she didn’t get scared anymore. He didn’t think that as a
burden; in fact, he was glad to be able to do so.
Wajima goes downstairs as he
also can’t sleep because of the thunder. Furthermore, he got inspiration to
make a new Ring for Haruto. Upon going down, he sees Haruto sits in the dark.
He is in deep thought.
He turns on the lamp.
“Can’t sleep?”
“Oc-chan…” Wajima’s question
stops his daydream.
“Mmm...” Haruto nods.
Wajima gets to his workspace
and starts to make the preparation for his work. He glances towards Haruto once
in a while. Both keep silence. Wajima
carries on with his work while Haruto is still in his deep on Koyomi.
“Oc-chan...” Haruto calls
Wajima after a long silence.
“What is it?”
Haruto still keeps silence.
He is in hesitation either to tell him or not. Wajima on the other hand is just
waiting for Haruto to spill everything out.
“I…”
The thunder strikes.
“I miss her.” Haruto finally
said the words.
There is no reaction coming
out from Wajima except he stops his work and focus on Haruto. He has already
expected this thing will occur somehow, someway and someday. It seems that
today is the day; because of the thunder.
“Really…Really miss her.”
Haruto feels like crying right now.
How long has he been longing
to see her? How long has he been holding back his feelings? How long has he has
been crying over her death? How many times has he been dreaming about her at
night? How many times has he been calling her in his sleep? How many times has
his heart in pain because of her? Did he feel lonely without her? Did he regret
for not saving her rather than saving her soul?
All these thought surround
him at once.
“I- I know that she’s gone,
but still…”
Wajima is still listening.
“I really want to see her.
Right now, I really want to see her. I want to see her smile, her face. I truly
miss her.”
Haruto doesn’t mind anymore.
Wajima knew how much Koyomi means to him. Futhermore, Wajima is the only one he
can tell about his feelings?
“Just now, I was frantically
searching for her. She wasn’t besides me and didn’t hold my hand. I even
thought that she must have been afraid all alone in her room because of the
thunder.”
“Haruto…” Wajima knew that
Haruto is in pain, but he didn’t think that Haruto is in that much agony.
“Oc-chan…” Haruto looks at
Wajima with doleful eyes.
“Is there any way for me to
see her again? I really want to see her.”
The painful expression on
Haruto’s face pains Wajima too. He wonders how much more this young man has to
suffer. After the Sabbath, Koyomi is the one who indirectly keeps giving him
the strength to live and to fight off the Phantom. He almost lost his hope
after losing Koyomi. Luckily everyone was with him and kept supporting him.
Wajima approaches Haruto.
“I can’t answer that,
Haruto. But, you have to be strong so that Koyomi can rest in peace.”
“Mmm.” Haruto nods.
The words still have not
erase his wish to see her, but at least; at the very least, it gives him a tiny
strength to keep breathing and holding on.
“You should go to sleep. The
rain has stopped.” Wajima puts his hand on Haruto’s shoulder.
He then leave and goes
upstairs to sleep. The new Ring can be finished tomorrow. Haruto takes a deep
breath before deciding to listen to Wajima to take a rest. He stops at the
stairs and looks at the Koyomi’s crystal ball sadly.
“The past six months were
really painful for me, Koyomi. No matter what, I truly want to see you. I miss
you so much.”
“I miss you, Koyomi.”
The words echo in his heart.
Haruto looks sadly at the
corner of the shop once again before going upstairs to go to sleep. That is if
and only if he can.
THE END
